We develop and operate WinDesk — remote-desktop and remote-support software with a true peer-to-peer architecture, end-to-end encryption and 100% Swiss data location. We address SMEs, IT providers and system administrators who want reliable software with a clear origin.
Who we are
Lightnet Multimedia GmbH is a Swiss limited liability company based in Graben (Canton of Bern), registered in the Swiss commercial register under UID CHE-435.553.655. We are a deliberately small, focused team of software developers and IT practitioners. Operating exclusively in Switzerland; no US or EU subsidiary structure. Our values
We prefer reliability over growth at the cost of quality. A stable 0.5.x with clear strengths and honestly communicated limitations beats a hyped 1.0 with feature gaps that we hide. We do not fabricate testimonials — see the WinDesk reviews page for our stance. We respond to every honest criticism — even harsh ones. And we know our limits: for air-gapped self-hosting we recommend RustDesk, for mobile-first setups still AnyDesk — because false promises are the worse business model.
Timeline
- 2024 — Lightnet Multimedia GmbH founded, WinDesk development started
- Spring 2025 — first internal versions, pilot phase with selected Swiss SMEs

Why "WinDesk"?
The name is a portmanteau of "Win" (English for "to win") and "Desk" (workspace). We are not unhappy if someone thinks of Windows first — that\'s the most common platform of our customers. Our approach
We build deliberately focused: one product that does what it must, and nothing it does not need to. No feature bloat, no tier pricing with hidden surprises, no cloud-routing surprises. Flat pricing, transparent architecture, predictable behaviour.
Why Switzerland matters
The Swiss legal framework offers data-protection standards that are GDPR-equivalent and in parts stricter. No dependence on the US CLOUD Act, no automatic mutual legal assistance with EU investigators without Swiss authorities, clear responsibilities via the FDPIC.
Cross-platform commitment
WinDesk runs on Windows, macOS Apple Silicon and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, RHEL, Pi OS). Mac builds are Apple Developer ID signed and Apple-notarised; Linux packages are .deb and .rpm. One software, all platforms — one account.
Roadmap
2026: SAML/OIDC SSO, REST API, native integrations with RMM tools (NinjaOne, Datto), web client (browser-based). 2027: ISO 27001 certification, mobile clients (iOS/Android), Enterprise licenses with self-hosting option.
